Passive control of cylinder aeolian tone by surface protrusions at low Reynolds number

چکیده

Aerodynamic noise control is important for various engineering applications, including automobiles. To develop effective methods the flow and sound of bluff bodies, past a cylinder usually studied as simplified problem. In this study, passive technique using surface protrusions was developed to suppress aeolian tone generated by two-dimensional laminar circular cylinder. Protrusions were created on front rear surfaces an optimization approach based lattice Boltzmann adjoint methods, allowing complex geometries. The computational results revealed that pair could stabilize separated shear layers fixing separation points their tips, whereas can interfering with interaction between top bottom layers. Consequently, these shapes effectively suppressed vortex shedding while decreasing mean drag. A shape symmetrical reduced 3.6 dB.

Passive swimming in low-Reynolds-number flows.

The possibility of microscopic swimming by extraction of energy from an external flow is discussed, focusing on the migration of a simple trimer across a linear shear flow. The geometric properties of swimming, together with the possible generalization to the case of a vesicle, are analyzed. The mechanism of energy extraction from the flow appears to be the generalization to a discrete swimmer ...

Simulation of Low Reynolds Number Isotropic Turbulence Including the Passive Scalar

Full simulations of homogeneous isotropic turbulence containing a homogeneous passive scalar were made at low Reynolds numbers and various Prandtl numbers. The results show that the spectral behavior of the two fields are quite similar; both fields decay as power-law functions of time. However. the decay exponent is quite dependent on both the Reynolds and Prandtl numbers. The decay exponent of...

Lateral dispersion in random cylinder arrays at high Reynolds number

Laser-induced fluorescence was used to measure the lateral dispersion of passive solute in random arrays of rigid, emergent cylinders of solid volume fraction φ=0.010– 0.35. Such densities correspond to those observed in aquatic plant canopies and complement those in packed beds of spheres, where φ 0.5. This paper focuses on pore Reynolds numbers greater than Res =250, for which our laboratory ...

Scalar transport in random cylinder arrays at moderate Reynolds number

This paper theoretically describes and experimentally verifies two mechanisms leading to longitudinal dispersion of a passive tracer in a random array of circular cylinders. We focus on moderate Reynolds numbers of order 10–1000, specifically the range characterized by unsteady cylinder wakes. In this regime, two mechanisms contribute to dispersion, each associated with a distinct region of the...

Structure of Vortex Breakdown in a Torsionally Driven Cylinder at Low Reynolds Number

Flow visualisation using tracer and particle techniques is well known to be susceptible to fallacious interpretation for unsteady shear flows. Recent experimental observations using these types of techniques have led to the conclusion that even for low Reynolds number flows, the vortex breakdown bubble in a torsionally driven cylinder is not closed and has an inflow/outflow asymmetry at its tai...
